Happy Gut Stewed Apples

One of my favourite ways to nourish the digestive system is with simple stewed apples and cinnamon.

Pectin, a type of soluble fibre found in apples, has incredible gut healing and nourishing properties. Pectin is released during the cooking process and can help to maintain and repair the mucosal lining of the intestinal tract. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

INGREDIENTS

6 cooking apples

1/2 cup water

2 teaspoons cinnamon powder



METHOD

  1. Peel and core the apples and chop them into small evenly sized pieces.
  2. Put all the ingredients in a covered, heavy-bottomed pan and cook for about 15 minutes, stirring periodically.
  3. Cook until soft and mushy
  4. serve warm or cold with yoghurt or cream
